PROFESSIONAL ACUPUNCTURE TRAINING PROGRAM

The students/graduates of WHTS are expected to achieve the following core competencies:

Knowledge
To demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of Traditional Five Element Acupuncture, including its roots in Oriental medicine, philosophy and culture.

To demonstrate knowledge in Five Element Psychology*
(Assessed by ARA's, Exams, Classroom role-play, Clinical Internship)
Diagnosis
To develop the skills necessary to diagnose the Causative Factor by developing their sensitivity to touch, feel, smell, see and hear.
To be able to take a complete history and to perform a physical Examination.
To be able to read and record the twelve pulses in the convention adopted by Professor JR Worsley.

Communication
To demonstrate good Communication Skills in writing, speaking and presenting.
(Assessed by ARA's, Presentations, Classroom role-play)
Rapport
To show the skill of establishing Rapport and the ability to ascertain the needs of the patient or person in rapport with.
(Assessed by ARA's ,Classroom role-play, Clinical Internship, Exit Video)
Self Realization
To demonstrate understanding of themselves as embodiments of each of the Five Elements in the treatment room and in their life.
(Assessed by ARAs, Milestone Meetings, Clinical Internship)
Therapeutic Plan
To employ the range of clinical methods and techniques required to perform Five Element treatments-including needle insertion, moxabustion, point selection, and intent.
(Assessed by Exams, Clinical Internship)
To be able to create a treatment plan for each patient that addresses individual needs and to adapt their treatment process to the personality of the patient.
(Assessed in the Clinical Internship)
To demonstrate the knowledge necessary to identify medical emergencies and medical conditions requiring referral to conventional or other healthcare practitioners.

Business
To demonstrate their understanding of the requirements needed to operate a legal and effective acupuncture practice, including scheduling, patient management, and record keeping.
To comply with safety, legal and healthcare provider regulations.
